so here it is like 1:30AM, im replaying original F.E.A.R. (in the dark) it goes into one of the freaky sequences with fire on the floor and whatnot and BAM....BAM BAM BAM.
the power goes out in the house 4 times.
other than nearly shitting my pants i now have 2 crashed PCs. the brand new AM2 i finally got working except some serious artifacts which i can RMA the cards, im just lazy but the warrantee is lifetime and i actually registered them and there is a "recall" for the problem and my watercooled A7v with the 160 gig raid with tons of shit on it.
the a7v isnt really much of an issue, i can allways plug the drives into the aircooled a7v and copy the raid.
the AM2 im kinda pissed about, i did plug in the single drive that does work already loaded except for the progress in games i have been playing.

what the hell man?

if i had to buy UPS's for all my PCs id have to get a second job.

i guess im just ranting, this thread is rhetorical so dont worry about trying to make me feel better, i must now reset the clock on my coffee maker (on a start timer) and try to go to bed.
thanx for listening!!

Just buy a couple lead acid batteries, a trickle charger, and a big old power inverter. The poor man's UPS can power a pile of PC's and you wont need a second job :)

There are designs for the like online.

Now thats the plan! Exactly what I have just set up for one of my less used boxes, and so far so good. I reccomend shopping for batteries at a place that sells and services electric wheelchairs. They generally use 4 deep cycle batts, and often one dies before the others, meaning the whole set is replaced, so they often have very nice batteries for sale cheaply.

In addition you can silkscreen your own solar panels and help preserve your roof while helping out that battery array. I'm dying to get a project like this underway.

Sorry to hear that Synth.

I've been having so many problems after last year's hurricanes, that I too had to buy a $200 APC.

i have a 600 amp battery charger (peak) and does trickle charge too.
my car inverter does 12v DC to 110v @ 140 watts, i dont know the conversion math about watts to amps but i can run a color 13" tv with VCR for 5 hours with no sweat. hmm
thanx for the advice!!

That sucks, did you ever get it sorted out?

all boxes came up eventually, the fear server is running.
the bad one was liquid-synth, managed to get it to boot and stay running under the liquid-synth\administrator account, the domain account liquid-synth@localsynth.local is still causing reboots so at least the box lives.
its my .torrent box so i managed to copy all my "data" and i can pretty much either retire the box or fdisk/format/reload XP at any time.
i thought the PSU was dying but the successful logon to another account has proven solid for the past couple days.

thanx for asking, very polite ;)
