I received my latest credit card bill and noticed a payment interest  Now I always pay the monthly bill so as not to get any interest added ... Upon checking the last bill which was for £1,777.78 and it turns out the silly to**ers in the bank had only taken £1,777.75 ... and for the omittence of 3 pence they had added over £15 to the next bill .... So you can guess the tone of the phone call I made to them. What got me frothing at the mouth was when the f**cking asswipe on the other end of the phone made the comment "well you cant expect the credit card company to pay for the banks mistake" :( to which I replied "It is your ****ing bank and your ****ing staff and if you expect me to pay for the retards you employ you can +++-//+-* yourself"
OK I feel better now

What really annoys me is that they charged the interest on the whole lot!! .. now if they had charged me interest on the 3p then that would be more logical but of course then they would not have had my contributions to there billions profit.
Maybe I just cant get my head round it but it just seems wrong to be charged interest on what you have already paid, its not like i missed the payment or was late with it ....
Now if you had borrowed money from a loan shark then you would expect it ... Hmnn Banks and Loan Sharks is there any difference? :D

No difference except a loan shark will give someone with no credit, credit.
Almost the same thing happended to me recently. Sold my home and used some of my profit to pay off my credit card. Paid the exact amount due. Paid it well over two weeks before the due date. The check cleared 10 days beofre the due date. I think its all paid off. They send me a bill the next month for $19... in intrest. Called bank and said "look I paid the bill and the exact total due" They said that some intrest isn't figured into that number. I asked why is that the amount due then. Really go no answer except the balance carried for the month before wasn't figured in yet. I paid the $19, then cancelled the card.
Also used to have problems with another CC company. I would send my payment in weeks before the due date but half the time they said it was late and charged me a late fee. Found out later on they were sued by a bunch of people because they didn't get the mail from the PO Box until after the due date and would then charge everyone late fees.
And the best one is when E-Payments first started at years back at one CC company they had a payment form and you would enter the date which the payment was to be drafted. I would enter the due date for my draft date. I was then charged a late fee. I asked why and they said it takes two days for the draft to process. I asked if I had mailed a check and they received it the day of the due date would it be late. They said no. I asked how long the check needed to clear and they told me three days. So a payment option that only takes two days is therefore late? I was told yes. Go figure. They are all crooks!

BigBen, let us know if you end up having to pay the interest. Is that legal in your country?
Im fairly sure its not legal here. I only get charged interest on the remaining balance here. Mostly because I never pay off the balance every month. Interest is calculated per day on the balance remaining AFTER any payments.
If that weren't the case, you'd owe interest on your account even IF you pay the total amount due.

If you have the money in the bank, a debit card is the way to go to avoid this kind of garbage.

I paid in CASH!! at the bank except for the 3p that the retard on the other side did not write down or whatever they decided to do .... I always pay in cash so as to avoid the "lost in the post" or "It arrived late" or "It did not clear in time" that these barstewards are famous for.
There is a Kevin Bloody Wilson song concerning a phone call called Dick'taphone (http://www.songlyrics.com/song-lyrics/Kevin_Bloody_Wilson/Miscellaneous/Dick_taphone/61407.html) and I so wanted to stick it in a similar place http://www.team-ninja.com/vbulletin/images/smilies/biggrin.gif

Yeah thats crap man. Is it a go into the bank and ask for the manager thing? Thats what I would do. thats about $40+ over here. Well worth jumping up and down a bit.
On a brighter note, this is the last place I expected to see a KBW reference :D I love that song. Reading the lyrics just isnt the same as hearing that nasaly voice.

You should hear my brother doing Living next door (http://www.songlyrics.com/song-lyrics/Kevin_Bloody_Wilson/Miscellaneous/living_next_door/247024.html) :D ... There are soooo many fans over here, he even does the odd show locally to me and christmas is not christmas without having the odd drink to many and doing the christmas song (http://www.songlyrics.com/song-lyrics/Kevin_Bloody_Wilson/Miscellaneous/Christmas_Song/61379.html) ;) ... For those who do not know of KBW you really need to hear the songs to get the lyrics in context LMAO

I'd call the bank up and keep climbing up to the ladder until you find someone who will get it sorted out...

The plot thickens. Having contacted the HSBC where the cash was paid into, it turns out that they did indeed process the full amount of £1,777.78 and the errors in fact lies with Capital one who have now received two letters. They refunded my acount by £10 which I have told them to stick. I want the full money refunded + compensation (I am stressed lol )+ a written apology for customer services being rude and saying "why should Capital one pay for my mistake" ***+--==* ... What makes it worse you cant even talk to someone in the UK about the problem but I am not going there

What sucks is sometimes it could take over a month to diagnose a problem.

aah, i see you are not married with a kid(s) and mortgage.
credit cards permit you to run 3 months behind.
what i mean is in april you pay off what you charged in january etc..
our paychecks are directly deposited into the checking account but we get paid every two weeks and i only get a commission/expense check once a month so even though i have earned and expect a certain amount of income twice a month i still need to live so we use the banks money until we get ours.
with the amount of bills we have the timing of the statements dont line up with available funds.
then there is braces for the kids teeth.
gymnastics school
daycare
quarterly taxes $1800. every 3 months
etc...
shit pops up that you just dont have the avail funds yet so you charge.
wacky if i started putting away a few grand a year when i was your age i prolly wouldnt be in the situation im in.
best thing you can do is open an IRA (not roth) and deposit the most you possibly can every year so when you are my age you could have about 70-100 grand in the bank.
wacky, you are young and single, you shouldnt understand why we use credit cards. its not an insult its a compliment. i so wish i could go back...

I actually couldn't get the sort of phone and internet services I have without a credit card. And the other services cost considerably more. I recently discovered how handy one is when trying to rent a car as well.
I have a card with no interest on purchases for 50 days. With most bills at the 30 day mark, I just cycle my income through the card, pay next to no interest, and earn points that I turn into supermarket vouchers from time to time. There is only one trick to CC's and that is don't spend more money than you have. If it says $2000 clear on your card, that doesnt mean $2000 to spend. I only purchase what is within my means to repay on the card, and the rest is good for emergencies.
Just as long as the bank isn't stinging you for their own mistakes, a CC can be good.
Hey BB there was an interesting case here a few years back where a guy was diddled by a bank error. It took him considerable effort to make them realise the error. When it was acknowledged by the bank, he prompty sent them an invoice for his time, and charged them legal industry rates for photocopying and postage. (4 pounds a page) or there abouts.
They paid the bill.
