easier on the eyes  For the past 10 something years, I've been manually setting my refresh rates to 85hz+ Why? Because I can see the damn flicker at 60hz, and it is very annoying and painfull on the eyes. Not once have I ever read anywhere or heard anyone mention the pros about raising your refresh rates.

And everywhere I hear "Oh LCDs are flicker free. LCDs are flicker free" Yeah no sheit. Cuz you never changed your refresh rate from the default 60hz you fruitcake.

Ok sorry rant over :)

My manual has specified to be set at 60Hz. I would recommend using the settings that is recommended, unless it is better in another setting. Meaning if it does not run well at 85Hz then that's they don't recommend it.

That's odd.
I'm the Refresh Rate Fairy. At every home, every office and almost every computer my silicon fingers lay rest on, I always change the refresh rate to 75hz or better. Long term effect? I have no clue. I just know it looked better at the moment :D

You can set a CRT to 120Hz and you can still see flicker. Why? Harmonics. Especially when you have shitty flourescent tubes hanging over your head. Or if you have another monitor in line of site, your brain is better at seeing differences in frequencies than seeing the flicker itself. Of course, I can see flicker at anything below 85Hz.

LCDs are easier on the eyes for other reasons however. They're not as blury. They dont distort the image on a round tube (even Trinitrons distort, my corners are blurry as hell right now). The only limitations on LCD are ghosting, color saturation, and limited native resolutions but.. none of those things affect your eyes.

I overclocked my LCD to over 667MHz, far higher than I could with a CRT.:surprise: :ditz:  :unhappy: :loopy: :nerd:

Well, Either you guys are fussy or I can't see so well. I have never noticed the 60Hz thing, and my old trini corners aint fuzzy. Theres a lot of colour ghosting but thats just age lol.

When I was studying IT at college, one lecturer reccomended maxing an old fuzzy CRT's refresh rate for a short burst to clear fuzziness. I fixed a few old 15" units that way. Another mate of mine swears by hoseing the back of the tube off. I'm not even kidding. he takes the back off, drags it out side and washes the black carbon buildup off. He then leaves it in his shed for weeks to dry out. I have seen a few old relics come back from the dead that way :o I would never reccomend it tho!!!

Flybye, can you please explain your flickering LCD thing again? I was looking at getting a couple soon.

:Nettik so set your manual at 60Hz and overclock that monitor instead ;)
LOL, i know what you meant:)
