Where can I get this harddrive? How about IBM harddrives?

CompUSA has them but you'll pay. I'd go to NewEgg (http://www.newegg.com) and pick one up there.
I stay away from IBM drives. Too many bad stories.

Actualy the new GXP120 seem very good and are only a hair slower than the WD, and are a lot cheaper.

Good point....
They all died of "smart drive failure" according to diagnostics that were run from the WD website....2 were RMAed and 3rd will be soon. All were in Vapochill running unlocked XP2200 @ 2156mhz. FSB=11x196. All components were new and only Hard drives died. PS was 520w TTGI with stock adjustable pot on +5 and 12 rails that held 4.99 on +5. CPU temps on vapo read -10c. There was no water or condensation. This happened 3 seperate times...seems odd..same deal 3 times...1st time I got imminent drive failure warnings in Event viewer and managed to burn data to cds..other 2 times..lost all data that was not backed up. One of the drives made a loud clicking sound while searching before it died. I have a couple of IBM drives coming (never used them before) also have run Maxtors and Seagates at high FSB with no deaths. Maybe good drives, but after losing 3 very expensive drives...I am gun shy.:D

TheDude,
Im surprised that you stuck with the brand that long. Got the ditty "Third time's a charm" stuck in your head ? Let us know what you end up goin with and how it works out. Keep in mind the massive recall when you amke your purchase. wouldnt somehow want to get stuck with one of those.

Only reason I stuck with WD is that I RMAed the pair that I bought and they replaced them with 2 more....Funny thing is I just finished running diagnostics on the 3rd drive and after writing 0s to it...it appears to be ok! The first 2 gave a unrepairable please RMA status....so looks like I will try the 3rd one again and hope it lasts. One thing for sure...this has made me very careful about backing up my data! Don't get me wrong...as long as it doesn't go south on me...I love it...very fast drive..comparable to a 10,000 rpm scsi.
errr...wait massive recall? Sorry but I have been out of touch for a while with a family emergency...who...what...when...and where?
I did see a post here that WD and Seagate were going to a 1 year warranty in Oct.
Thanks:D

hmmm....guess I need to crawl out from under my rock more often! Thanks!
It doesn't mention Seagate or Maxtor...I wonder if it affects them as well?

How about the new Seagate Barracuda ATA V and Maxtor DiamondMax Plus 9 ?
The Maxtor drive has 8MB cache and ATA133, while the Seagate has 8MB only for the SATA version, but both look like very fast drives to me.

A word on the WD1000JB drives. I've killed 4 of them. I still run 2.
They are *extremely* sensetive to voltage fluctuations. The four I killed were running on a voltage modded Enermax PSU, which was the cause of their death. Im not surprised to see that the ones you lost TD were on a modded PSU as well.
The drives are great, handle high FSB, but will die if you mess with their voltage. I have my last two in a file server with a non-modded Antec True power and they have been running great. I do recommend the drives.
To be fair, WesternDigital replaced my pair of drives (raid 0) twice in a 3 month period with no complaints. They were really good about that. Luckily, I use a good backup scheme.
As an alternative, I would seriously look at the new IBM 180GXP. The 120GXPs are also acceptable.
