Hey all

Just thought I should keep you updated as I havent really been around for a couple of weeks..

Those of you in the UK may remember seeing on the news last friday/saturday (17th feb) about a guy being convicted of murdering a Bar Doorman and a Policeman - the killings happened in 1993.. Well, the policeman was a member of my family and so I was down at Belmarsh Prison/Woolwich Crown Court attending the last week of the trial. Probably THE most stressful week of my life, but we got a good result for both families. The man was convicted, and was sentenced to serve a minimum of 35 years, with the Home Secretary considering making it a 'rest of natural life' tariff.

Here's a couple of links incase people are interested:

Its not the nicest situation to have been in, and it was very weird to hear the jury come back with the verdict - realising that something lasting 12 1/2 years of my life was coming to an end in the space of 3 sentences. This guy was a very dangerous person. We were all placed under full armed protection at all times during the trial, and some people involved still are in protection programs - and may be for years.

Anyway - just wanted to let you guys know, but also publicly thank the detectives and police for keeping at it and getting the person who was guilty bought to justice.

But anyway - im now back, and hopefully life should become a bit more 'normal' now! :)

Glad to see you back DC! It's strange I mentioned this to some londoner via dubliner mates of mine from the local pub who recall being round when this all went down. Not where your hero of an uncle perished, but in highbury where the bollox ended up getting himself bollixed. According to the lads this f'r was a crazy nutter not unlike 'Rory Breaker' from Lock Stock, but not quite as polite or patient.

I'm glad to see justice served in such a famous case (I myself now recall reading about it in 98 when I was in london on business and the concern of arming PC's but didn't know how close it would come to "home" till you mentioned it).

As much as I love London and the 'safety appeal' it sorta presents, I myself having been at the wrong place on Tott. Court Road at the wrong time on the wrong night, was spared from a potentially dangerous altercation by an eagle eyed cabbie from cyprus who could tell I was sticking out like a sore thumb in for a world of hurt and shouted me into his cab before it was too late. Once I figured out what was going on, he pointed out the posters of the guys not unlike me stabbed to death on the very same corner I was standing.

Without a doubt Britain's slightly lax immigration/tourism policy should afford constables a bit more protection considering the size, growth and evolution of the city and its districts. I'm a 'newyawker' born to londoner parents and the sheer sprawl of the city even frightens me.

Aaron, may you and your family come back to normal life and peace even though scottland yard had more than enough to bring about some sort of conviction without keeping your family looking both ways and over each shoulder the past 12 years. God bless your family, especially the truly devoted and brave Constable Dunne who may now truly rest in peace knowing his actions of true bravery and dedication were not in vain.
