View Full Version : Cell phone and driving don't mix
This happend yesterday in my neighborhood. The lady driving the vehicle that hit the fire hydrant was speeding, on her cell phone and tending to a child in the back seat while driving, ALL at the same time. I'm just glad no one was hurt. The odd thing is the way the hydrant is bent. I would think it would have been bent away from the street instead of into it. Maybe she just snapped the whole thing off and the water pressure just pushed it there???
I snapped a few pics and picked out my favorites. The water wasn't shut off until over 30 minutes after the accident. It didn't help that the wrecked car was parked over the shutoff valve for some time.

Check out the hole the high pressure water made. It was spewing rock and clay over 100ft away. Water, I estimated to be 40-50ft high maybe higher.

This poor guys backyard flooded due to the drain in his back yard was plugged with yard debris. Fire Fighters managed to clear it slightly but the water was just too much. It found an easier place to go, in the guys basement! Oh the poor drivers insurance company. I hope it's not State Farm ;)

those kinda drivers should never be allowed to drive again. they are obviously complete idiots. its a damn good thing there was no one in the way otherwise she'd be a killer as well as a moron.
maybe car manufacturers should start fitting spikes instead of air bags? it would make people a lot more careful...

In my experience, there may as well be spikes. I was in a t-bone going 15MPH and hit a benz going 50-60MPH (in passenger seat)... after I regained feeling it felt as if I had thousands of little knives in my face.

Mat have you driven over here? you can't ban an entire country from driving! and that would be the result, in two years I can probably say I've seen less that 50 good drivers. Go on flame away but it's true, lol.
It's purely down to education, if the state tells you it's ok to use the phone, but the state next door says no? no wonder the poor ba$%*rds are confused.
driver education is crazy, I know it changes from state to state, but here in NJ it's a joke.
She was lucky she did not get hurt, I would imagine the husband or the childs father was slightly p!ssed though!

....... but here in NJ it's a joke.....
I lived in Jerzey, and now I'm in Miami, FL.
Let me tell you, Jerzey drivers are YEARS beyond the shit that drives here on the street. I could go on and on and on about the quality of Miami drivers, but just trust me on this.....Jerzey drivers actually have some commonsense, decensy, and I can almost say professionalism when it comes to driving. miami.....words can't even explain the type of shit I need to put up with here.
I use to drive over 120miles EACH day in Jerzey. I see more accidients in miami in one day than I would see in Jerzey for several months!! I lived near Phillipsburg at the end of I78 on the west side of Jerzey, and would travel 6 days a week to the Caldwells. I did that trip for about a year, and I LOVED everyday of it.

Lol, I do 287,78, and the parkway most days, I travel all over joisey and NY, You go across that bridge and get on the L.I.E and it's like a different world, lol
The roads themselves are to blame as well, why would you drive in the correct lane when it has holes you can fall down in it?
I've just got back from 10 days in the UK, and it was weird, roads that are smooth, drivers who understand lane control and damm traffic lights that go from amber to red, waaaayyyyyyyy too quickly, lol

Next time take a visit to Germany. The TRUE car guy's paradise. I miss every second of the 2 weeks I was there :(
150mph and people STILL passing you on the fast lane :D

yep been there, nobody sits in the outside longer than they need, probably trough fear of being cut in half by a rampant M5 doing a ton fifty

Being on the phone while driving is against the law in the UK. You see these fools trying to negotiate busy roundabouts etc. Maybe they should have em surgically inserted where the sun dont shine then they can talk all they want. One chap got nicked when his wife handed him an open kit-kat to eat the police done him for not having proper control of the vehical lol

I've seen people in the DC area driving to work (70mph) while reading the newspaper and eating a bowl of cereal, which was on the dash!
I've even seen people driving while reading books, eating pizza, blabbing on a cell phone while smoking and drinking, shaving, doing makeup (funny that many of the womens cars I bring in the shop have all the mirrors pointed at the drivers face or the backseat where the kids sit. I guess other drivers on the road don't matter). I've seen people changing clothes, switching drivers at highway speeds. I even once saw a dog driving an SUV (the dog was proped up on the drivers lap while the driver had the seat reclined way back).
I have friends ask me why I don't buy a motorcycle. I say, "Well, I almost get hit every day while driving to and from work in my Volvo. If I had a motorcycle they would just run me over and probably wouln't stop".

That reminds me of a funny story. This one lady one tailgating me while doing her lipstick. So I decided to conduct a little experiment :D
I slammed on my brakes. Of course, she had to slam hers, too. And the lipstick? A nice big streak across her face :D She looked like she wanted to :punch: me LOL

Much to my GF's surprise I got out of my car at the lights the other day and asked the lady behind me politely to stay the hell away from my car. I swear, I cound not even see her wipers she was that close. 65-70Kph, (I never muck around) Said the whole thing with a smile, in front of her car full of kids LOL. left her with her chin on the floor. She gave me at least 3 car lengths then, so given that I'm not known to handle road rage well, I claim it as a win.:D:D
