View Full Version : CFM Whats it all about?

Hi Chaps,
Having got my new heatsink that can take 80mm fans peace and quiet I thought was near :) ..... BUT!! it seems CFM does not count I got a 80mm Sunon 39cfm fan to replace my 60mm delta screamer(37cfm) and the temps are worse  checking round the spec sheets I come across the pressure with which the air is forced downwards and found that the 60mm delta is 5 times as high I guess due to the 7000rpm compared against the 2900rpm of the Sunon ..... In fact the 60mm delta even beats the bigger 80mm delta(spins at 4900rpm) that I have in the downward pressure stakes although it is close.... the 80mm delta (68CFM) wins the temp stakes by the shear amount of air that it flows plus it helps cool the surrounding bits and bobs.
Fitting the Sunon caused the temps to go from the mid forties to 61C the room temp at the mo is 30C (hot for us Brits) so I guess for now its gonna be back to the 80mm Delta :( + noise ...... I guess I will have to start looking at water cooling again ......

Hi Ben,
The only way to go is water cooling.
Works very well, and the noise is so low, you will wonder why you didi not go there sooner.
Take care.........

Hi Ben,
Most anybody will give you all the advice, and maybe more than you need, to go from air to water.
There are several kits available and many folks make their own out of heatercores, fish tank pumps, a waterblock, a reseroir, and some tubing.
We will be more than happy to help in any way we can.
Take care......
have been trying to twist his arm for a while now Lee & he keeps on using that same old line :)

Hi KMS,
The "same old line" trick, huh?
Hey Ben,
That will not work anymore.
Start asking questions on how to water cool......:p
Take care.........

Thanks BigBen, Finally someone that feels exactly like me. (Please don't switch over to liquid and leave me as the only hold out :) )
Maybe it's from my days on cruisers and destroyers but I have gotten good at just tuning out the sound of the comps in my room.
Sometimes at night when I wake up all the l.e.d.'s make me think ET decided to come find me, but then I hear that low hum eminating from my fans and know that all is well. :D
lol
looks like SG's another one that needs some gentle shoving in the right direction :)

Hey SG :) at least with the fan noises :( I know the machine is working ..... I have never served on a cruiser or destroyer but what concerns me is turning my machine into a submarine :D :jar:
I want to fit a couple of 120mm fans into my case but then KMS's other friend dicki :D mentions "how could i put holes in my Lian-Li case" or words similar to that which makes me feel guilty again LMAO so I can't win

Hi Ben,
Put a couple hamsters inside your case, blowing on the CPU, bridge, and video card.
Then you get the best of both worlds..........No noise and it stays cool. :D
Take care.........

Second, get rid of the air and get a nice quiet water rig, then you only have to worry about flooding the mobo. :p
Welcome again and take care.........

Buy, beg, cheat, do what you have to do to get a watercooling system up and running.
I had some setbacks with mine but I'd never go back. If you pick up some used stuff you can start cheap.
lol.. if you see anyone with some water stuff for sale.. lemme know ;)
