Budget?

I'd recommend staying away from ATI. There are plenty of horror stories out there about the horrible linux ATI drivers, but personally I got them working fine.

And when you do install, make sure you install WinXP first. Makes it easier overall.

Asus V9520-X/TD nVidia FX5200 AGP 8X 128MB DDR or ASUS ATI RADEON 9200SE Video Card, 128M DDR, 64-bit, TV-Out, 8X AGP
i'm not a huge gamer so which would be better

You can't go wrong with Nvidia and Linux.ATI will work too, but as Drake said before sometimes you hear some horror stories trying to configure this.My sugestion; if you can; put linux on a separate drive.

Good advice, sptw! I run linux on a separate drive for more idiot-proofing :D:D. That way GRUB/LILO can't mess up your Windows drive's MBR.

Yeah nvidia seems to be more linux friendly, and not a bad choice if you're on a budget and dont game.

I got a bfg fx5500OC for $100 and it runs kde and gnome smoothly.
Havent even bothered to oc it anymore since its oc'd out the box by around 7% or so
