I was looking at a Chaintech SA5700LE GeForce FX5700LE 256MB DDR 8X AGP cause I'm cheap, and im trying to upgrade my current PNY Verto GeForce FX5500 128MB PCI card.
I've never heard of Chaintech before, so do y'all know anything about 'em?

a few members here went the chaintech path and i havent heard any negatives. however saphire seems to render better o/c results:)

The only thing I know about them is they make good MObos never had one but I have heard good things, so I would think there video cards are good too. Good Luck hope it works for you. you said you have a PNY those are tight cards why dont you just get a newer PNY?

Oh ok, I did not know it was so new but I have heard those new PNY6800GTs that just came out are killer nice cards and OC/Flash to Ultra really nice.

LOL.

Inuyasha is da bomb... if I ever get around to burning the MPEG2s to DVD Ill send you some Steve ;)
PNY is notorious for breaking down. In fact, Ive never seen a working PNY, I usually pull them out when they are dead.
Chaintech is okay, sapphire is okay, either of them is better than PNY or like eVGA or something. I like Abit, Asus, Gigabyte (any major manufacturer of motherboards) cards, they usually do quite well.

Good to know, so i think i'll be cheap and get the Chaintech when i get some dough
BTW: Last Exile is a great anime.
I've got a Chaintech FX 5200 128MB 8X AGP. Has worked for over a year running in my media server. Not a great gaming card by any streach but was inexpensive and works. Even overclocks well but really not worth it as the 5200 chipset is just a little better than onboard.

i have an msi 5700le with same specs i like it cause it comes with the DOT and no needed software to oc the card. ram pushed to 525mhz and 3d freq is at 432. with stock air cooler and agp bus set to 70 mhz no problems yet but not goin any higher until i watercool max temp on backside of gpu core has been 49*c but i have 2 80 mm fans blowing down over the top of it.

I've used Chaintech twice in the past, and I loved those cards. One is still in use as a matter of fact, and it was the one I used to OC the hell out of even. It was a Geforce 2 GTS 64mb, and for its day, it rocked.
I've used ATI and Sapphire exclusively for the last 3 years though, so I think my opinion would be antique to say the least. All that I've read/heard about the new cards has been good though.
If you arent going to overclock, then you dont need the best card out there. I think if you stick with something like Sapphire, ATI, Chaintech, the "currently" reputable companies you'll be fine.
I get a standard retail card and just add what I need to it, do what I need to it and run it. I never look for anything other than will it stand up to what "I" need it for, then I save as much as I can getting it without going OEM.

thanks.
Kinda amazed people are posting in this thread again.
I still have no income to speak of, and my PNY is still working (amazingly).
So I'm stuck at the moment.

Bummer, I hate to hear that, but I know the feeling well myself. Give it time, and things will work out. I have to wait sometimes months on end to get what I want, but its worth it in the end. ;)

Hey Xamdbz01, just a thought, it would be cool if you and your F@H team joined LN's. We could make a better dent in that top 100 list if we united I bet....hehe
Remember now, thats just a thought, but it "would" be cool none the less. ;)

As cool as that would be, I have a hard time getting the forum members to participate in the folding as it is.

If you can get them to come here, then maybe between your influence, and ours, we can consolidate teams. Who knows. It'd be worth a try if you were up to the challenge.
I know that its hard for sure, but the thing is, when they see the teamwork going on here, its hard "not" to want to join in. Plus, the level of entheusiasm is really high, so the energy level itself is almost impossible to resist.
Its your call. If you think they will come here just to hang out, send em on, and let us do our part as well. I think that between all of us (you especially), we could convince them it was worth it to consolidate and have a top 100 team.
Even if "you" are the only one from your team, your still welcome as a part of "this" team, anytime you want to be. I think I can safely say that "all" of the members of LN F@H would welcome you with open arms. ;)

I got one, now retired, FX5200 card from Chaintech and it is pretty good, stable and reliable one. Of course the 3D power of the card is pathetic, however it works, with good overclock (250/333 to 295/410) and works OC to max fine for few years now, so... ;)
Not really a name, but a nice buy still.
In contrast, my eVGA FX5700Ultra died on me w/o being OC and the damned Sapphire R9100 old crap did not even have holes to one can use more decent heatsink, not to mention the poor speed (but that is the chip problem)...
Other that Chaintech I got a good experience with Gigabite FX5600XT. It serving me well, with unbeliable OC (235/333 to 375/535) and quite reliable operation for long time - I had it before FX5700U and now I have to use it again
