Last week i added a 100 Gb HDD to my TiVo for extended recording time and i can't believe how easy it was.
This method should work for ALL TiVo boxes even DirecTiVo.

Take a look here on my website (http://smbach.com/tivoupg.htm)

OK I just got my newly ordered brackets tonight so that I can add a HD to my Tivo units.
Question? I don't have a comp with a FAT32 file system. I have both a 2000Pro and XP Pro install disk but when I try to reload the OS and format for FAT32 the option is not availible on either. I even stuck the 40gig drive that I was going to load the OS on as a Slave in a XP Pro box but the option to format to FAT32 still wasn't availible. Does anyone know of a workaround for this? Thanks

Figured it out. Could not format FAT32 larger than 32GB with Xp or 2000.

careful typing the dev commands, all should be a snap:)
after surfing the TiVo forums for a while, i came to understand its more benificial to copy your orig drive to a bigger drive first so you can still add an even bigger drive later, from what i've read, the stock HDD usually fails after 4 years.

all the programs you have now can be downloaded to your pc via network so you will at least have backups (if you have software ver 7a or better.)

Well, uh, too late for the larger HD on the Primary. Just finished upgrading two tivo boxes. :D
I just wanted a few extra hours and the wife didn't even want hers upgraded but I did it anyway. I don't listen very well :) I only added 80GB drives to each which brought my total box to 127HRS. Picked those up for $29 each. Much better than the stinking 39HRS from before.

Thanks for that article Synthohol, it helped. Without it I probably wouldn't have done the upgrade.

(I still like the Gizooglized version myself ;) )

Unfortunetly that was with a BestBuy Mail in Rebate. Just got my rebates in this week. I posted about it some time back. I suppose living in Finland may be out of their mailing distance ;)

I can score WD 160GB for $79 at Sam's Club or 250GB for $129 +5% VA sales tax.
