My system (P3 1.13/512mb pc133 RAM, 64MB Nvidia card) won't run the more popular multiplayer games so it's DF BHD and such. My oldest lives up north (Chicago), I live down south (SWFL). So we've tried logging on to same server at same time but I can't find his player, he can't find my server/map. It doesn't matter if I host a map or chose one off the big list. I figure there are scores of player on the planet so maybe the sites are divided by geographical regions. Am I correct? I learned recently that my ISP (Comcast) changes your IP address regularly (14 days or sumthin' like that) cuz I was of the belief that you could 'link' up with another player by entering their IP address. Enlighten me.:worship:

Well this is kinda a broad subject. If the game is a MMPORPG they're are various servers for regions and it might be tough meeting your oldest online unless you both specifiy the same region.
Now any other online game like BF1942 ect can be played anywhere with anyone. Basically if you setup a server on your computer check to see what your IP address is before you set it up (not internal if you have a router or multiple pc's). Give your oldest the IP address and have him filter by IP address when he/she is looking to join a game online.
Your correct for the most part, its kinda hard finding someone the first few times. About the IP address changing, just check your ip address before you get ready to play with your oldest. (If you don't have a router: goto a dos command prompt and type "ipconfig", if you have a router: goto the routers web interface and click on the status page, this should give you the IP address.)

Thanks for the nugget. Sounds like I should host a server, give him my IP address and then lay in wait for the rest of the unsuspecting victims to arrive.
