Hey again.. just a quick question regarding SETI..

iam keen to run it.. and i understand that it does use the internet..

just curious if anyone can tell me how much bandwidth it uses?


i dont mind a couple of MB a day.. i do have cable.. though i have limitations of 100MB per day.. hence i dont want to use it unless its downloads a minimal.

Hi sage,
Seti only uses the internet once you have completed wu's. It's kinda hard to explain but here we go.
For instance, once you install seti sriver you set your cache to say 50-100wu once you hit transmit seti driver will download those 50-100 wu. Then your off crunching untill there all done or untill you hit the transmit button. When and only when you hit transmit is when your bandwith will be used. You can also set seti driver to auto transmit..here i cannot help b/c i have dial-up and don't use this feature, when lee or someone come's around they'll answer it..

Wes is right on. All you need is Seti driver and the command line client and you're good to go. Take seti driver and d/l some wu's and start crunching. Since you have cable you won't even notice the bandwith if you have it set for auto transmit. But then you don't get to save up and stomp.:D

Hi Sage,

All you need is SETI Driver and Setiathome 3.03 and you are ready to go.
In fact, go to FAQ section on Home page.
I have a very good explaination in SETI FAQ's as to what you need, where to get it, and how to install it.
After that, let us know how it goes, and hope to see you very soon, looking for the aliens with us. :D

I am an extreme computer newbie, so please don't laugh too hard. While trying to get SETIATHOME to upload, I keep getting the error message "InstallShield Engine (iKernel) could not be installed. The system cannot find the file specified.

Thanks in advance for your help. When I get it up, I'll log on to your club. Since I am now retired, maybe you can log some serious hours with me!

P.S. I used to be a computer geek, back in the day of punch cards.
