View Full Version : No Visual!

I just finished putting together my new computer and I turned it on. Everything seemed to be working fine! LED lights were lighting up. Fans were spinning, and nothing seemed to be making weird noises. The only problem is that the monitor is not receiving any signal. Its just blank. I think this is because I am using a 6600 GT video card and not onboard video (I actually did not get a mobo with integrated video). Therefore I think I just need to install the driver for the 6600 GT, but the problem is: how do I this if I can't see the screen/BIOS! Any ideas?

Try checking if you attached the molex connector to the graphics card, my friend did the same thing, because he forgot that it had one.

Molex connector? My video card only came with a dvi to vga adapter, and hdtv adapter. no molex connector. Also the vid card has no slots to plug anything in other than the fan. Did your friend also have the 6600 GT (PCIe) card?

Does the computer beep any, or give any POST codes?
Drivers are only important in a desktop environment... drivers will change nothing.
I may have misundstood your post, but if your motherboard does have onboard video, you may have to switch a jumper on the motherboard so it uses AGP as primary display.
If not, try swapping out the 6600GT with another graphics card if you have one laying about. Also, don't overlook silly things like improperly seated RAM/graphics card.
If the motherboard is already in the case, try taking it out. A loose screw may be touching a trace or something like that.
A bit of a shotgun approach, but no boot, no video situations are hard to diagnose :)

Well I think it is booting up, I hear one beep (I think). The mobo does NOT have onboard video. I am using a PCI Express card 6600GT from Nvidia. The fan on the video card is even spinning, which leads me to believe nothing is wrong with the video card.

There can be plenty of things wrong without an altered visual appearance :) If you breathe on my 8500 the wrong way it'll die because I accidentally knocked a piece off of it and poorly soldered it back on, but you'd never be able to pick out what's missing :)
One beep is good. I'd say the only thing left to try is swap video cards.

By the way, the molex connector is the power supply connections to pretty much everything in the computer. I am pretty sure you need to connect one to your graphics card for the gf 6600gt card. But good job anyways.

From looking at pictures of 6600GT's from newegg, it doesn't look like there is even a connector to plug a molex in.
