yea i really wanted it but.....we all know what happened Why are game manufactures ignorant like that making so that a shit load of games all come out on 1 day? yea i can see if your trying to get bragging rights, but they arent going to be too great to instead of releasing the game the next week so that the consumer can then buy both games. but im merely venting cuz yes you can buy it the next week but its jus not the same when you think to yourself that you bought that game the first day it came out...

I thought the graphics and music on the first one was great. But I was very displeased with it on all the other aspects. All the cars drove the same, the story line and upgrades were EXTREMELY linear.
I love racing games and NFS series... has the second version improved on the first?

good game, graphics are good especialy the shiny floors and motion blur (wooooo nitro), the storyline is good cus u can choose who your sponsers are and how you modify your car. The cars drive completely different with some being very bad accelerating out of corners and others being excellent, overall an excellent game.

I agree this is a lot better than the first (which I enjoyed also). The only thing I can say is the music has gotten worse, but you can turn that off anyway LOL

I finally picked up NFS:U2 for the PC and have been playing it for the past week. I think the game has some seriously nice points still. But Im still not feeling it that much.
The graphics are still spectacular. A bit less guady than the first version. The rain system is great, but overused imho. Still, the game is dark. The scenery is basically the same. Comparing this to say Porsche Unleashed (which I still consider to be the best in the series, dated graphics aside) and its boring.
Driving feels a lot better, a lot less arcady than the first. There's subtle differences when you mod the cars and between different cars. Thats always good. Theres a certain feeling of mastery that I think is important. I'm playing on medium mode, and all in all I think the races are mostly too easy, except for MotoX.
I love the way they mapped it in to the whole city. It feels like GTA, although I know its probably closer to some other racing games I havent played (Is Burnout, Midnight club like this?). Anyway, its a great feature to have for a game like this. Its fun just cruising around the city. What I dont like is the voice acting, and the cutscenes. Theyre awful. I hate the graphics, they look like some cutscene from some 90s SegaCD game. The voices could not BE any more tacky. Its worse than 2 Fast 2 Furious, honest to god. It feels like some corporation pushing 'extreme' and 'radical' advertising. Oh, lets not forget that the game is one big fat Cingular BurgerKing BestBuy ad. Realism yes, but this is just blatent. Doesnt EA make enough money? They certainly cant churn out a decent game IMHO. I should rephrase. EA has a lot of good franchises, and apart from the sports games, doesnt put nearly any of the polish youd expect in these games. You can tell that these are games that they mass produce and rush out the door as fast as possible in order to make the biggest dollar. NFS was a great franchise which they took and retooled in order to capitalize on the 'street racing' mod scene.
What happened to the cop chases? I love the drift and drag racing modes. MotoX doesnt seem like the kind of thing that should really be part of a game called 'need for speed'. NFS was great because of the sense of large and big and speeding through traffic that it always gave you. And the cops were always fun. Its just missing now.
The music is still pretty good in this game, for a game. I liked the music better in the first one, but U2 has some good songs in it too I guess. Its a little more 'rock' than the first one. I guess theyre targeting a 'whiter' demographic this time. More marketing crap. Anyway, the music gets old fast. For a game with so much playtime, youd think theyd have a lot more tracks available.
I still hate the upgrade system with a passion. Its pointless. At least you get a garage now and can save cars. But theres no reason for the upgrades. They try to copy a sim like Gran Tourismo and just do it badly. The only reason you upgrade is simply so you have to to beat the next race. But theres no real choice. It seems silly to me that I cant take my $10000 and buy the best tires out there. Who would really mod their car this way? Reality already has a great way of limiting whos putting what in their car. Money. Its annoying that I cant buy better tail lights until later in the game. All the options should be available from the start, and just have realistic pricing. Then you wont be getting the $20,000 engine swap until later. Or you can save your money and have a sleeper. In terms of the visual upgrades, the points system forces you to choose items you may not like the best visually. Also, theres not enough cars in the game at the start. Im still driving around my Ford craprocket.
All the complaining aside, the game is pretty fun. That goes for most EA games. They arent anywhere near perfect. But they still have their redeeming qualities that makes em worth playing at least for a little while.

Still a sad sad game IMHO. The Ricer's delight.
