Hi all,
Well the "new equipment" party mood came to a screeching halt today. After taking everything out of the packaging for a thorough inspection, I noticed the DD GF4 block shipped with barbs for 1/2' tubing. Not a big deal really, but unfortunately the rest of my system is 3/8'.
Any ideas to get this thing plumbed in easily? I don't plan on changing to 1/2' lines anytime soon, and I wanted to run the DD block against the MCW40 which had 3/8' lines.
Here's a pic if it helps:

Thoughts?
hi MIke, what are the thread sizes on the DD block ? Gabe at Swiftech may have some BSPT fittings to replace the barbs & take it down to the 3/8"OD for your QP

take out a fitting and drive to a local DIY store.. im sure they will have a fitting with proper threads / tube diameter.
one other question... how come there are never any fins inside of these water blocks.. it would seem logical to me to increase the surface area would be good...

Alright....I'll try seeing if I can find replacement fittings at the local hardware store. I would want to get something as close as possible to the original fittings for proper testing of installation fitment (ram sink clearance, etc).
BTW I beleive most waterblocks go more for flow rate than surface area, and fins would really hamper flow rate. Designs like the Spiral and Maze go for more surface area in key locations within the block. Others, like the Swiftech models use dimples which cause turbulance in the water bringing more molecules of water in contact with heated surfaces while still maintaining good flow rates.
Either way, GPU coolers don't need much of either design as GPU temps just don't necessitate it.

I would just go to the Hardware store and get some 1/2" tubing and (2) 1/2-3/8 reducers this way you don't actually need to mod the waterblock.

Mike,
try mcmaster.com, they have all sorts of fittings, including those funky 45 degree connectors if you want.
Or, just get a couple 1/2" to 3/8" reducers.
